Misogyny among women is quite common. I observe this first-hand. Some of the most misogynistic people out there are actually women. Needless to say, this is very harmful in women’s quest for respect and fair treatment. Even among professed Christians, some women have been conditioned to have disdain for and harshly critique women.
Some have also been conditioned to feel less than men, so they have a problem not only with themselves as women, but with women in general. These kinds of women tend look to men for approval.
Based on the continued mistreatment they put up with, it should not surprise if some of these women believe they do not deserve the right kind of man in their life who will treat them well. They also don’t seem to believe that other women deserve to be treated well by their men.
Religious influence (not godly influence) can promote misogyny.
Some of these women are in religious cults and are under the control of misogynists, who teach false doctrine about women. These cultic women train and teach the younger women accordingly.
Their biased ideas, skewed understanding of God’s word, their behavior, and speech are tainted with misogyny. Their views are helping to blow up the egos of chauvinists who are looking for exaltation of self, degradation of, and corrupt power over women.
This is very harmful all around. Their messages swarm around the internet and through communities. Men who have issues with women eagerly eat up and spread the messages further. It is important for women to cancel out all lies they have been taught. The way that we cancel out the lies is with the truth of God’s word.
How does a woman become so confused and biased against other women in their thinking, anyway? I have not been immune to it. I eventually recognized that I had bias and double standards in my own thinking, and wondered where on earth I got these thought processes from.
How I got to that place of biased thinking is called conditioning. A lot of wrong conditioning is very widespread and normalized. Both men and women have been programmed, often from a young age, with unbiblical bias. Any boys and girls, men and women have internalized misogyny.
The list below is based on my observations and experiences. Every woman with some or all of the thinking patterns and behaviors noted may not be a mysoginist.
Regardless, some women with these harmful thought processes are indeed women influenced by misogyny. There are many other unfair ideas and biases against women, but I will list a few that I have personally observed.
Misogynistic views and habits of some women:
• The idea that the husband being the head of his wife means he has greater value and or importance.
Reality is, headship is not about superior value of a husband. It is about the responsibility of the husband.
• When a man has an affair, the mistress is mainly to blame.
• When a man callously trades his wife in for a new woman; for a new and younger model, the new woman “stole” him from his wife.
• When a man cheats on or leaves his wife for another woman, the wife must have done something to run him into another woman’s arms. For example, the wife may not have been submissive enough to the husband. She may not have had sex with him often enough.
• A woman or girl gets assaulted, the female misogynist critiques the victim’s attire and or questions why the victim was out late or at the particular location where the attack took place.
• Common preference for sons rooted in conditioning, self-hate, and misogyny. Some women have professed disdain for girls in general, but why? Certainly, not all women who prefer sons are misogynists, of course.
• Thinking it’s better to have a son who harms other people’s daughters, and impregnates them, than to have a daughter who might get pregnant by someone else’s son.
• Believing it is better to have a son who is a murderer than to have a daughter who sleeps around.
• Preferring a boy, because boys don’t get monthly cycles and can’t get pregnant. Wait a minute… doesn’t it matter that a son could get someone else’s daughter pregnant?
• Assigning daughters many more chores than sons.
• Having more rules in general, and more strict rules for daughters than sons. This includes placing many more restrictions on daughters than sons.
• Coddling behavior with sons- even with adult sons, but much harder on daughters.
Does this ever occur to any of the parents with these unfair views and double standards?
The reason they feel an overwhelming need to “protect” their daughters from boys, is because they are usually protecting them from sons who are untrained and were unmonitored by parents similar to themselves.
These types of parents give their sons too much free rein, too little instruction, but put a lot of pressure and restrictions on daughters!
More misogynistic characteristics and behaviors some women have:
• Irritated with and harshly judgemental towards women in general.
• Demonizing female victims of abuse and deflecting away from male perpetrators.
• Using religion and God’s word wrongly and against women.
– For example, embracing spiritual abuse against women, because female misogynists are likely bitter and angry at women, just like male misogynists are. They tend to accept distorted interpretations of God’s word.
– The same way some men use God’s word in the wrong way against women to attack them, the female misogynist does the same.
• Teaching Christian women the word of God in a lopsided way and understanding the Word in a man-centered way that appeals to male and female woman-haters.
– For example, the woman who screams at women to abandon any ideas about having a career, hurry up and get married, and start pushing out babies.
– This is done without properly equipping ladies with Bible knowledge of how a husband is supposed to treat his wife, so that women have right standards and know who to say yes to when deciding who they will marry.
– Another example is a woman who scolds women for having the audacity to have a career or show “independence,” and emphasizes they should hurry, marry and get pregnant.
What if the woman doesn’t want to get married and she is not struggling with lust?
Do these people forget what Apostle Paul said about marriage?
People don’t have to marry, but to avoid fornication, Christians should marry in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 7: 1-2.
It is better to marry than to burn (1 Corinthians 7: 9).
Misogynist women also tend to:
• Focus mainly on women’s moral failures.
• Blame women for men’s moral failures.
• Believe people who rightfully defend women are feminists, or more accurately, radical feminists. Perhaps, to misogynists, all feminism is bad; not just just radical feminism.
• Envy and resent other women, but are generally very tolerant and cooperative with men- even to a fault.
Need I say more? If we are going to heal and move forward, at the very least, women should ditch their misogyny. That’s first base. Then we can move forward to second base in the game of playing fair and just. What God says about everything, including women, is the truth.
God said everything else was good in the beginning. What was not good was for the man to be alone.
“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Genesis 2: 18.
A woman will bring her husband favor, because a wife is a good thing.
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.” Proverbs 18: 22.
God’s command for a husband is always to love his wife; not dominate, control, be selfish, or belittle her.
“Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter against them.” Colossians 3: 19.
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.“ Ephesians 5: 25-27.
There is no superiority and inferiority with men and women.
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3: 28.
God does not prefer one gender over the other.
“For there is no respect of persons with God.”
Romans 2: 11.
God doesn’t just blame the woman for a man’s lust.
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Matthew 5: 27-28.
When I have thoughts, concerns, or perceptions, I understand to always take them back to the word of God for comparison. Therefore, when my thoughts and perceptions do not align with God’s infallible truth, I know I must get rid of wrong thoughts. I must reprogram myself with knowledge of God’s word.
